The Ballet Ink Trio

Well hello there and a Happy Tuesday to you! I’ve got some new art for you today! After weeks of saying I’ve got some new ballet illustrations for you I can finally reveal the ‘Ballet Ink Trio’ ! As I’ve said before, I love ballet! I had a few lessons when I was about 5 but gave it up after a term and then regretted it, but I’d quite like to maybe take some adult ballet exercise classes one day – any excuse to wear ballet shoes! I’ve been wanting to experiment with using ink for a while and the clean lines of ballet seemed to lend itself to the medium so I picked up my ink and nib and set to work on a trio of pieces – and I loved every minute!

— The Ballet Ink Trio —

The first in the trio is based on a beautiful picture I came across that I believe might be the famous Anna Pavlova. It had the classic poise and elegance that we all love about ballet and was the perfect first piece to ink. You can find prints of this first piece in A4 (8.3 X 11.7) and A5 (5.8 X 8.3″) in the shop…

The second piece has the same air as the first but is based on a picture of a dancer in training. As much as I love the beauty of the show, sometimes seeing a ballerina in the studio is just as beautiful. I like the honesty and simplicity that you can see in them. You can find a print of the piece below in A4 (8.3 X 11.7)…

The third and final piece has a slightly different feel to the other two: it is of a dancer in contemplation while in the practice room. This piece is based on the dancer Sarah Lamb practicing for a show at the Royal Opera House. I used more water in this one to get a variation of intensity and I really liked the outcome. I might try this one in paints soon as I would love to see it in full colour. You can find prints of her in A4 (8.3 X 11.7) and A5 (5.8 X 8.3″) in the shop…
